People ask,  "When is it best to cut back perennials?"

Most perennials can be cut back, once they've dried and gone dorment in the fallIf you don't get to them in the fall however, fear not! You're helping the pollinator populations, amongst other beneficial insects!  Leaving "dead" stems in your garden to over-winter, allows for the young insects/eggs that have been deposited there to emerge and thrive in your garden the following spring. However, if you still feel the need to tidy up the garden in the fall, simply take the stems you've cut back and place them in a concealed area for the winter.  You'll be thankful in the spring when the beneficial insects and spiders emerge from the "garden waste" and begin to "care for" your perennial garden!
